What do you say?

When you need to get cash do you say you're "going to the mac machine" OR do you say you're "going to the atm machine?"

Apparently here in LA if you say "mac machine" people look at you like you have 3 heads....so I'm wondering if it's just an east coast thing to say "mac machine."

By the way, I say "mac machine."

  1. I used to say mac machine, but now say ATM. Don't really know why. But googling has turned up the following:
The company that maintains a lot of ATM machines in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia is called MAC. Hence, the ATMs in those areas are frequently called MAC machines.

  2. We say, "banco mat" (as in "bahn-co maht"). I guess we've spent too much time in Italy of late. :-)

It'll be interesting to find out what they call them in China.

  3. I just say "I'm going to the bank to get money" never really say ATM or MAC.
