BROILER

Ok can everyone reading this please tell me where the broiler is in their oven? I will explain my question once I get a few comments.

  1. I think it depends upon whether or not you have gas or electric. In the electric oven, the broiler coils are at the top of the heat chamber. An old gas stove we had once had a separate drawer underneath the oven proper that was the broiler. Of course, modern ovens, of which I have none, probably have some other new fangled arrangement.

(Now I'm curious to hear what you have to say after reading your blog note.)

  2. Our gas oven has a separate burner at the top of the oven chamber. On the digital control panel there is a separate button for broil and the options are hi and lo, unlike the temperature settings of the oven.

In my mother's old oven there used to be a separate drawer at the bottom which was the broiler. In fact I think our old wall oven in this house had one, but my memory isn't that good, and I didn't do much cooking back then.

  3. Yes Dad the old oven you guys used to have had a separate drawer for the broiler because that is how I thought all ovens were/are.

Since we have an electric stove/oven, like Aunt Judy said, ours has coils at the top of the oven chamber that heat up when set to broil. Never have broiled anything though.

  4. yes lauren is right, the broiler was on bottom. with gas flames just under main oven area.
I also thought this is how ALL ovens were..being that most still have a bottom area.
